Programming, Storyboarding, Art & Animation | PC | 2021-2022

In my first foray into making a digital game, I was tasked with working together in a team of 4 to create a 2D game in GameMaker Studio 2 that falls under the theme of "Wayfinding". In the end we were able to create a short game that told a story through a variety of genres (Puzzle, Shoot 'em up, Choose your own adventure).

You play as a little alien named Escher, as they try to move in to the planet of Oikia and face all the troubles that come with the process.

Taking on the position of lead programmer, I developed the vast majority of mechanics for this game. Thanks to my work on the dialogue system, cutscenes and game managers among other things, we were able to create an experience that allowed the story of our game to shine.

Mechanics developed:

  • Dialogue System

  • Cutscene System

  • Shmup boss fight which cycles through attacks using a state machine

  • Game managers that handle transitions between stages and progression within them.

Soft skills exercised:

  • Team management with Agile SCRUM

  • Creative writing and storytelling

Other skills exercised:

  • Pixel Art in Aseprite

  • Concept Art
